How To Make Decorative Gift Boxes
If you are
interested in making decorative gift
boxes this is very possible. Some individuals
that are crafty as well as creative, instead of
purchasing a pre-made box are more inclined to make
decorative gift boxes themselves. After all it is the
thought that counts, and it makes the recipient feel
extra special that you took out the time of your schedule
to actually create something for them. In order to
complete this task, some steps need to be
followed.
Supplies
Necessary:
- Boxes
of various sizes
- Clip
art, photos or cut outs of magazine
pictures
- Wrapping paper, tissue paper (if
interested in a certain color or theme)
- Scissors
- Glue
- Paint
brush & paint
- Paper
towels
Get all of
your supplies ready, and find a space that is comfortable to
work in. Since you might not have the boxes that you need, ask
your family, friends and relatives as they might have some
smaller ones laying around their houses, basements or garage.
Some people prefer to work with Justin Boot boxes as they have
a removable lid and area available in many shapes and sizes
which are complimentary and compatible for storing and
stacking. You may decide to place the smaller ones within the
larger boxes as well.
Cut out
your graphics and organize all of the images by themes or
colors. This part depends on your individual taste but it is
important that the pictures you choose have some kind of
appeal. You may choose to save some of the ones that you do not
use for a later crafts project and when doing this, do your
best to segregate and label them. This will make it much easier
to find what you are looking for later on.
If you have multiple boxes it
might be more comfortable to lay them out on the floor
and place the papers and pictures next to the ones which
they will be used on. In my opinion it is easier to work
on the table as it makes it easier for cutting straight
lines and work on the boxes in an assembly line type
fashion but the floor is fine as well.
Clean out the boxes with a damp
paper towel but do not get the boxes wet. You are
interested in removing any debris, dust and other
particles which will create a barrier between the box and
the glue or paint. Paint the box or tape the themed paper
around it to complete a background color. Now start
gluing the pictures and photos onto the box. Before doing
this part, I recommend to first place the pictures on the
box to see if you like the way they look in that
location. Also after applying the glued ones to the box,
use your hand to get rid off the air bubbles which may
form below the surface.
Once you have completed the
design and decoration allow for the boxes to dry off
before playing around with them or placing objects
inside. At this point, they are still in a fragile state
and some of the decorations might move around, come off
or come unglued.
